Every week we’ll dive into our archives and share something from the past. It could be a gallery of old photos or videos or some truly inspirational words of wisdom from some of our leaders.
And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you.” Hebrews 12:5 (NLT)
Life is full of things that can cause discouragement. Even for believers, the feeling of discouragement can be right around the corner. However, the Lord Himself encourages us that these things are all a part of normal life.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)
I have learnt this: people will let you down, even those who mean well. Heroes will disappoint and miracles will sometimes be delayed. During these seasons of discouragement we are to keep our eyes on the Lord. When we take our eyes off the Lord we look to worldly solutions, i.e. ‘I need a new job!’ or ‘I need a holiday!’ The truth is this: these things are only a temporary fix for a long-term problem. The solution is to maintain our relationship with God and meet with Him on a daily basis and getting to Church, even when our emotions are telling us otherwise!
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
Church is the instrument of change on the Earth. Church is God’s plan; to be outside of Church is to be outside of God’s plan. When we and our families are truly committed to Church it helps us to remain focused on the Lord. When we miss Church out of choice we are putting God’s plan for us on the back burner, which eventually only brings delay, disappointment and discouragement.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
So, if you are feeling discouraged, low, tired, fed-up, stressed, sick, happy, blessed, healthy, full of joy – no matter what – be encouraged with this: get to Church!
